Let it Be
Chapter One AFTER the one week holiday it was back to Kindy School. Beebo and Peeper had enjoyed frolicking in the sun every day, but now it was back to school. "Yeuch!" said Beebo, "how boring." Along came the Strange twins – Weirdo and Weirdel. "What's boring? Your life?" asked Weirdo. "It sure must be," said Weirdel as the twins ran off laughing. "Let them be," said Peeper. "They're just being stupid, as usual." "I'm tired of having to put up with them. They're always making fun of us." "It's OK, Beebo. They'll get what they deserve one day. Anyway, it can't be much fun living in two houses all the time." After Kindy School, Beebo and Peeper went to the field with Sam. The boys wanted to kick the football around and Sam wanted to read her storybook under the tree. As they reached the park, they saw Weirdel. She was sitting under the tree crying. Beebo rolled his eyes in disbelief. Peeper and Sam looked concerned. "C'mon," said Beebo, "it's a trap. Weirdo must be waiting somewhere to ambush us. Or pour water as we stop in front of Weirdel. C'mon, you two. She's not REALLY crying. She's just pretending." But it was too late. Neither Peeper nor Sam were listening to him as they made their way to Weirdel. "What's wrong, Weirdel?" asked Sam. "What do you want?" snapped Weirdel. "Just leave me alone!" "There you go," said Beebo. "She said it herself. Now come on, let's go play." Peeper looked at him, and Sam gave him a disapproving look. Shrugging, Beebo stood behind Peeper fidgeting as he waited for his friends to come to their senses. "What's wrong, Weirdel?" asked Peeper. "Can we help?"
Weirdel stopped crying and looked at Peeper and Sam. "You really want to help … me?" “Yeah,” answered Sam, "if we can, that is." "But why? After all, you must hate me." "Yeah, we do," muttered Beebo as Peeper gave him a shove to silence him. "So what's wrong, Weirdel?" asked Peeper. "I … I lost my Bear-Bear," answered Weirdel, starting to sob again. "Er, what's a Bear-Bear?" asked Beebo, intrigued. "It's my little brown teddy bear that I take with me wherever I go." "Where's Weirdo? Maybe he took it," said Beebo. "No. He didn't take it. He's too busy playing with his new robot toy to bother with my Bear-Bear." "Come on," said Sam. "We'll help you look. Did you lose her around here?" Weirdel just nodded, as she stood up to help look for the missing bear. It was getting late and there'd be no time to play football now. Besides, the other kids all gave up waiting for Beebo and Peeper and had all gone home. There was nothing to do now than to look for … Bear-Bear. What a name, thought Beebo. Maybe if we help her find her bear, she'll stop helping Weirdo bully us. Beebo smiled. That thought was enough to make him want to find the bear. Beebo, Peeper, Sam and Weirdel looked all around the field. They looked under stones and behind trees, and Sam's wheelchair nearly tipped over because of the rocky patch she wanted to go over. Luckily, Peeper caught her wheelchair and pushed it back before it tipped over. "Thanks, Peeper," said Sam smiling. Just then Beebo yelled out, "I found it!!!" They all looked at Beebo. He was holding up a dirty brownish bear which looked all tattered and torn. As Peeper and Sam got closer, they realised how much Weirdel must love this teddy bear. It looked really old. The ear was nearly torn off. "Thank you, Beebo!" cried Weirdel hugging her Bear-Bear. Then without another word, she ran off! "Well," said Beebo looking at his two friends. "Nevermind," said Sam. "We can go to my house for ice-cream now, if you want." Beebo and Peeper both had big smiles on their faces as they helped wheel Sam to her house. Chapter Two The next day, as Beebo and Peeper got off the school bus, they were greeted with water balloons. It was Weirdo and … Weirdel. "Ha! Ha! Take that!" yelled Weirdo as he threw another water balloon at the boys. Weirdel was helping Weirdo fill up the balloons. Peeking out of her dress pocket was Bear-Bear. While Peeper ducked for cover, Beebo just stood there gawking. He looked at Weirdel and then at the bear. Too late! SPLASHHHHHHHH!!! Beebo was drenched now! And still he didn't move. "What's wrong with you, stupid?!" yelled Weirdo. Weirdel just looked sheepishly at her Bear-Bear. Then she stuffed the other balloons, unfilled of course, into her other pocket. "C'mon, Weirdo. Let's go. They're not worth our time. We'll be late for school, anyway," said Weirdel pulling her brother away. "Beebo!" said Peeper running to his friend. "Are you ok?" Beebo sighed, "Yeah, I'm fine." Miss Cherry helped Beebo dry up although Beebo wouldn't tell her how he managed to get his clothes and hair soaked. Chapter Three As Beebo, Peeper and Sam waited for the School Bus to get them after school, Weirdo and Weirdel walked up to them. "Hey, stupid!" yelled Weirdo. But before he could say anything more, Weirdel said: "Weirdo, help me with this, will you?" Her shoelace had come undone and Weirdo helped his sister tie it back properly. By the time they were done, the School Bus had pulled up. It was time to go home. Peeper looked at Beebo and Sam and this time it was Beebo who said: "Let it be. It's OK." |
